On the cover for this album is huge block of ice. It looks like this ball of ice is about to fall to the Earth and cause massive damage to the planet and to the life on it.

Introducing Another Thrash Metal Band from the Czech Republic
Freeze, Obey is the debut album by new Czech thrash metal band Deviance brought to the world partially by the good people at The New Wave of Old School Thrash metal channel. This album was released just recently on November 20, 2021 and here comes another thrash metal band from the Czech Republic and the sound is definitely modern in feel while showing that they are influenced by older bands such as Metallica. This influence can be found in the style of the guitar play such as in songs like “Rain Dance” which has these bursts of fast guitar sections that play through, stop and then the cycle begins again to create a memorable song.

The album begins with the song titled “Death Row” (not the Mark Boals song) as there is the sound of wind blowing before the guitars kick in. This beginning riff is a 2008 Metallica era type of guitar part. Deviance is described as a band that plays the thrash style of heavy metal in their local underground scene in the Czech Republic.

    “Entity”

The Kind of Thrash Metal Played by the Band Deviance
The album begins with the song titled “Death Row” (not the Mark Boals song) as there is the sound of wind blowing before the guitars kick in. This beginning riff is a 2008 Metallica era type of guitar part. Deviance is described as a band that plays the thrash style of heavy metal in their local underground scene in the Czech Republic.

    “Rain Dance”

Analysis of the Songwriting in Freeze, Obey
However, the first song in this album isn’t exactly written like a song from Death Magnetic so the band at least maintains some level of originality here. The first few notes of the song “Humachine” remind me of the song “Black Curtains” by Megadeth. The song’s title might be referring to the link between humans and machines. The song “Animal Mind” in terms of its style resembles the song “Just a Bullet Away” as well as a brief feel of Sacred Reich as well. The song lyrically is about the pros and cons of the human mind. Sometimes our mind can be one of our greatest allies and sometimes it can be our worst enemy as it operates in the background always creating our life. “Entity” is a song that is influenced by Beyond Magnetic era Metallica as the song is about what goes on in the depths of the underworld as there is some force that is spreading their name around like it is a disease. While what is present on this album may not be 100% original thrash metal it is still really good modern thrash metal even for a nation that is probably better known for its death metal scene.

The title track ends with some more Beyond Magnetic influence and then with the way the drums sounds and finish off this song, you might think that it is Lars Ulrich providing guest drums on the song but it is not. It is just that the last part of the title track with those drums sound like the way Metallica would end a song.
